Application Checklist


Thank you for your interest to our lab! This checklist serves as a template to assist you organize your thoughts and information when reaching out to me. Please feel free to fill out the checklist to the best of your ability, and don’t hesitate to reach out if you have any questions or need assistance. I look forward to learning more about you and your research interests!


On the email


  • Writing an email to me does not constitute a formal application to any degree program.
  • I tend not to miss any messages, but if you don’t receive a response within a reasonable time frame (e.g., 1-2 weeks), please feel free to follow up with me. I may have missed your message or it may have been caught in an automatic spam filter.
  • Feel free to write the email in English or Korean (whichever you’re most comfortable with).
  • I do not have @kaist.ac.kr email yet. You can send me your email to @mit.edu email address at this moment. You can find my email from here (click ‘unscramble email’ button).

Brief introduction of yourself

  • Branding statement, e.g., elevator pitch style intro. (This is optional, but I recommend taking some time to think about it whenever you can. It doesn’t have to be now or shared with me. It’s just a helpful way to organize your thoughts about yourself.)
    • One sentence about yourself (e.g., “I am a ____ person.”)
    • Expand a bit more on the above sentence
    • Any relevant background or achievements that you would like to share
    • What you want to do in the future (e.g., research interests, career goals, etc.)
  • Expected Graduation Year (if applicable)
  • Resume or CV (if available)
  • Link to personal website or portfolio (if available)
  • Additional info (anything else that you would like to add)


Note


Having done this myself, I understand that writing application emails for future careers already consumes a lot of time and effort. Therefore, it’s perfectly fine even if you don’t follow the above template at all.
