I used to play guitar in a band since my first year of college. We performed in the university festival, local music festivals, etc. We also recorded some of our own songs and released them online.

I personally find that preparing for a show is more fun than the show itself. The relationship between a performance and its preparation is, in fact, quite similar to that between a research presentation (on a paper or a conference) and the research itself. This would likely be a sentiment shared by many who have engaged in both music and research.
